About the Role

At Summer, data engineering is about owning and collaborating on some of the components of our stack we are most proud of. Our primary challenges are augmenting traditional OLAP systems in order to increase performance, manipulating data at time of ingestion for query acceleration, and blurring the lines between OLAP and OLTP. When it comes to ETL, we wouldn't call ourselves streaming fundamentalists, but we certainly have a preference for it over batching.

As a team, we've recently been getting excited about WASM, distributed SQL engines, all the different flavors of columnar data stores, and how we might best be able to leverage that curiosity into a strong Open Source contribution. A perfect candidate for this position likely shares those interests, wants to work in a startup environment building from scratch, and has built data infrastructure at scale before.

If you've never heard of WASM or don't know what a distributed SQL engine is, no problem. So long as you've got a firm understanding of the basics (OLAP vs OLTP, Columnar vs Row), a positive attitude, and a desire to grow, we'd love to chat!
